Why Are There Over 80,000 Kids Who Start Smoking Every Day?
“Worldwide, between 80,000 and 100,000 kids start smoking every day. Approximately one quarter of children alive in the Western Pacific Region* will die from smoking.†(http://quitsmoking.about.com/cs/antismoking/a/statistics.htm)
I think that this happens because kids get bored, and they think smoking is supposed to be fun. Sometimes kids also see their parents doing it, and so they want to try it, because a grown up is doing it. Some kids do it because someone is offering cigarettes to the kid, so they are under pressure, or they find cigarettes in their home. Other kid’s start smoking for they feel they will this will help solve their problems.
Here are 5 tips that I would give to kids who are thinking about smoking and think it is cool:
5 Action Steps
- It isn’t cool to have bad breath and yellow teeth.
- Make friends with those who don’t smoke.
- Ask a parent to tell you about it, and why it is bad for you.
- Read books about it, and understand why it can kill you.
- Make a decision, by saying, “No” and not caring what others think.
